The web design process begins with a domain name. I can help you decide the best name for your site based on information you provided in the form.
I use GoDaddy.com for my domain names. GoDaddy's prices are competitive and they provide comprehensive tools to help to manage the domain. They also provide hosting services which might be conveniant, having everything in one place.
Hosting companies do just that, they host your website. Unless you anticipate having a site with hundreds of pages and media heavy (video, audio, etc) you should be fine with a basic packages costing from $5-$10/month.
Unlike buying a domain name, the extras built in to your hosting package are very important to ensure functionality and expansion of your site. If you need a blog, shopping cart or access to traffic data, you want a hosting company that offers these features. Also, a well-designed control panel makes digging into your site easy and efficient for you and your designer.
I use Hostgator for all my sites. They offer competitive pricing, many tools & resources and provide excellent customer support.
I will design a mock-up version of the site for your approval. Once agreed upon, I will build the framework for your home page and supporting pages.
A color scheme for backgrounds, images, text & links will be created. I will use colors that reflect your taste, the focus of your site and/or colors being used in promotional materials you already use.
I will secure and edit stock images to use in your site. If you're providing photographs, I will make edits as necessary to ensure compatibility and fast load times. If you need to scan photographs, use a 300 dpi resolution and 24bit color setting on your scanner, if possible.
Populating your pages with content is the final step in the design process. I can provide creative writing for your site if needed.
My fee is based on your project as a whole, not by the hour.
The payment structure requires a 50% deposit for me to get started and the remaining balance due previous to uploading your site to your hosting company.
A basic (but stylish) 5-10 page website site can be up and running in less than a week. Of course this depends on our communication and the content provided by you (photos, images, text, documents).
If I have to edit photos, create custom graphics and/or provide any content writing, the site may take longer as you would need to approve designs, changes and edits.
No. The quote you were given is what you should expect to pay for the design & delivery of your website and not a penny more. If, however, you decide to add functionality that was not included in my quote, an extra fee would be proposed.
I will make updates and minor changes per your request for 30 days after the site goes live. For any changes after that, you can hire me at a rate of $55/hour or purchase a yearly maintenance contract to be determined by your needs. Of course if there is a misspelling or grammatical error, I will fix it at no charge.
I suggest that you change all login information once you are happy with your site and don't require any other edits or changes. This will usually be the case after the 30 day guarantee.
No. The stock images and photos purchased for your site in addition to any custom graphics I've created cannot be sold, rented or in any way distributed either individually or packaged. However, you are allowed to reuse those design elements in websites you own.
Yes. I will place all elements of your website in a zip file that you can burn to a CD/DVD and/or save to a disk drive on your computer.
No. Your website will be void of any branding including watermarks or third party logos or references.
